AFA -gen is a natural source of niacin for the maintenance of good health, and to help the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin and is necessary to transform food into energy. Niacin is converted to nicotinamide and then to NAD and NADP in vivo. Niacin is a precursor to NADH, NAD, NAD+, NADP and NADPH, which play essential metabolic roles in living cells.

AFA-gen is also a source of twenty-seven naturally occurring essential minerals, and twelve vitamins. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae is composed of protein, including all ten essential amino acids, thirty two fatty acids, four biologically active enzymes and chlorophyll.
